The 14 Best Gaming Keyboards for 2022

Gamer on a mechanical keyboard

If you are a gamer, you know how important it is to have a keyboard that works for your needs. You might have tried gaming with a normal keyboard and found it extremely lacking compared to a mechanical keyboard.

There are several factors to consider when choosing a gaming keyboard. These include the type of switch, the size of the keyboard, the backlights, the presence and type of wristrests (for ergonomics and comfort), and the presence of detachable or non-detachable cables.

Today we’ll walk through 14 of the best gaming keyboards you can find on Amazon to help take your game to the next level.

The Best Gaming Keyboards You Can Find on Amazon

The SteelSeries Apex Pro has a few key selling points; it can set an actuation point for each key on its own. This means that if you find that you kept on pressing one key by accident and you would like to end that, you could just readjust the errant key’s actuation point to make it deeper than it currently is.

Its switches are also quiet and are quite reminiscent of a membrane keyboard. The novel OLED Smart display at the upper right corner of the board also allows you to find important details of whatever you’re doing on your laptop without having to tab out.

Not certain about what kind of switch you want on your keyboard? With the Apex Pro, you have a hybrid that combines both. You can set your keyboard to having a deeper actuation if you would like to type. You can also reset it to have a higher actuation for playing games with complicated commands.

It helps a great deal that this keyboard also has dedicated multimedia controls. This is a clickable metal roller that allows you to change your volume and some other minor settings within the twinkle of an eye.

Gaming Keyboard Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What Makes a Gaming Keyboard Different from a Normal Keyboard?

A gaming keyboard might not seem too different from a normal keyboard at first glance. If you, however, think there are no notable differences between both types of keyboards, you might want to reconsider that thought.

Gaming keyboards have a myriad of features that make them perfectly suited for gamers. Normal keyboards are great for everyday uses such as typing, programming, etc. However, a gaming keyboard makes users more comfortable for gaming sessions compared to normal keyboards.

Other features of the gaming keyboard include a faster response time, a longer lifespan, the presence of programmable keys, and keyboard lighting.

Gaming keyboards are also quite modular. You can choose what type of switch you want on your gaming keyboard instead of a normal keyboard where what you see is what you get.

While switches on gaming keyboards typically have less actuation force than normal keyboards, you can swap them for a switch that you are more comfortable with.

Why Are Mechanical Keyboards Better than Membrane Keyboards?

Mechanical keyboards are not necessarily better than membrane keyboards. They are, however, different in terms of features and functionality. Mechanical keyboards have a unique set of features that works for specific purposes.

A membrane keyboard has its name because of its layers. The keyboard has a top membrane layer, followed by a middle layer and another membrane layer at the bottom. The whole keyboard shares the same layer instead of the mechanical keyboard, which has its separate keys with each part set up.

Membrane keyboards are great! They make less noise, are less bulky, and are economical. It’s also important to note that some membrane keyboard models also offer satisfying feedback when you click on them.

However, especially if you are a gamer, a mechanical keyboard might still be your best bet due to their durability, customization, and personalization.

What Size of Keyboard Is Best for Me?

Your keyboard is a huge part of your gaming experiences and processes. So, naturally, you would want to ensure that you pick what size of keyboard would fit well into your lifestyle.

Mechanical keyboards are in several different sizes. You need to decide first if the size is important to you or if functionality bears the same importance. A smaller keyboard will help if you prefer to save desk space.

If both size and functionality are your priority,  you can buy a bigger keyboard if it fits all the requirements for functionality.

A full-size keyboard offers several features, including a numpad. If you use your keyboard for crunching numbers and gaming, you may want the numpad.

The Tenkeyless keyboards are much smaller as they do not have a number pad. Compact keyboards are the ones that are easier to lug around or to place on your work desk, especially if things are tight.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a gamer, you will want to ensure that you have the right keyboard to keep up with others and have a great gaming experience. With the mechanical keyboards outlined above, you’re sure to find a keyboard that keeps you winning.
